NBC tops all other Chicago stations at Emmy Awards show

Awards shows don’t always get it right. But at the 54th annual Chicago Midwest Emmy Awards show at the Alhambra Palace Sunday night, the judges did get it right.

The top Emmy Award — outstanding achievement for spot news gathering — went to NBC-owned WMAQ-Channel 5 for its gripping coverage last May of the NATO Conference hosted by the city of Chicago and President Barack Obama at McCormick Place, the huge convention complex just south of the city center.
